People Leaving Armed Forces
As part of its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, to improve access to social housing for the armed forces community, Bracknell Forest Council has adopted the governments recommendations, exempting the following applicants from the requirement to have a local connection:
- members of the armed forces who are currently serving or who have served in the regular armed forces at any time preceding the application
- bereaved spouse or civil partners of members who are serving in the regular armed forces, where the bereaved spouse or civil partner has recently ceased, or will cease, to be entitled to reside in Ministry of Defence accommodation following the death of their Service spouse or civil partner and the death was wholly or partially attributable to their service
- serving or former members who have previously served in the reserve forces and are suffering from a serious injury as a result of this service
The Armed Forces Covenant does not guarantee immediate entitlement to housing. However, the Council’s housing allocations policy seeks to ensure fairness and equality by addressing any disadvantages that may arise from the unique circumstances of military life.
