New Housing Allocations Policy Effective 1st November 2016

Published: Tuesday 24 May 2016

The Council's New Housing Allocations Policy came into effect from 1st November 2016

The Changes are below:-

  • You now have to live in the Bracknell Forest borough for 4 years to join the Housing Register. We have written to all those affected by this change.  Note: The requirement to annually renew your Housing Register application remains the same.

  • Making Offers of private rented accommodation to homeless households for whom the Council has a statutory duty to house as a discharge of duty.

  • Introducing the “Right to Move” which will allow social housing tenants living outside Bracknell Forest to move to a housing association property in Bracknell Forest where this will enable them to take up employment or keep employment in the Borough.

  • Introducing the opportunity for exceptional circumstances to be taken into account when considering applicants from outside the borough

  • Where families have children in care and Children Services are working with the family to enable the children to return home, these families will be prioritised as if the children are living with them so that they do not have to wait until the children are returned to come on to the housing register.
